This Privacy Policy describes how Durham Ontario Health Team (OHT) (“we”, “us”, “our”) processes information when you use the Durham Care Compass mobile application (the “App”). The App is a white-label version of a platform developed and published by Health Espresso on behalf of Durham OHT. Durham OHT is responsible for the program and determines how information is handled for the App, and Health Espresso acts as a service provider supporting the App’s operation.

1. Information We Process

The App processes the following types of information:

• Location Information: With your permission, the App accesses your device’s precise location to display nearby health care and community services and to show your position on a map.
• Technical Information: Basic device information such as operating system version, device type, and IP address may be processed automatically to ensure proper functionality, performance, and security.
• Push Notification Token: If you enable notifications, your device generates a notification token (through Apple or Google services) used solely to deliver notifications to your device.

2. How We Use Information

Information is processed strictly to:

• Provide core App functionality (map display and nearby service discovery);
• Deliver push notifications you have opted into;
• Maintain performance, reliability, and security of the App;
• Prevent misuse or unauthorized access.

3. Location Permissions and User Control

Location access is requested only to enable nearby service functionality. You may disable location permissions at any time through your device settings. If location access is disabled, certain features of the App may not function as intended.

4. Push Notifications

Push notifications are optional. You may disable notifications at any time through your device settings. Notification tokens are used only for message delivery and are not used to identify you personally.

5. Data Storage and Retention

The App does not create user accounts and does not store personal information such as names, email addresses, or precise location history.

Location and technical information are processed in real time to provide functionality and are not retained beyond what is necessary for technical operation and security purposes.

6. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services such as Google Maps to provide map display and location-based search functionality. These services may process information in accordance with their own privacy policies.

7. Disclosure of Information

We do not collect identifying information such as names, email addresses, or user account details.

We do not sell personal information.

Information processed through the App may be disclosed only:

• To service providers strictly for the purpose of operating and supporting App functionality (such as map services or notification delivery);
• When required to comply with applicable laws, regulations, or valid legal requests;
• To protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or the App’s infrastructure.

8. Security

We implement reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information processed through the App. However, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be fully secure.

9. Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe information has been collected from a child, please contact us for review.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
